Noble coronavirus has an impact and changes the lifestyle at swerving. Earlier, people's priorities without any prerequisite were to fulfill all the desires like having expensive gadgets, cars, and lavish, but abrupt distortion has been witnessed. People are giving ascendancy to recuperate and life. And to comply with all this change, sanitizer has played a significant role. 

Sanitizer kills germs and viruses, to prevent contagious diseases like prevailing Covid-19 and many more. A liquid gel with a composition of more than 60% alcohol and other chemicals makes a good sanitizer. It is an alternative to hand-wash. It kills the virus by dissolving their fat membrane.  

Sanitizer has a huge demand in the market now. Acquiring a prominent place in our day to day life, it has now become a regime that needs to follow under any circumstance. Now, the question is: When and where it was formulated for the first time?



Alcohol has been used in medical care throughout history but it has antibacterial properties was scientifically proven in 1875. In this widely debated topic was alcohol can kill bacteria, not the spores. Then in 1888, alcohol was introduced in surgical procedure and it was also recommended by the well-known physician for pre-surgery hand and surface disinfection. 

In 1930, ethanol was approved to be used as an antiseptic for the skin. By this, it has been confirmed that alcohol kills germs. But there was no appropriate way to apply it at any place. However, in 1966 Bakersfield, California when a nursing student named Lupe Hernandez come up with a technique to use disinfecting alcohol solution into gel form- consequently discovering the hand-sanitizer that could clean the hand without soap and water. Predominantly, it was used in the hospital until it was advertised by companies like Purell and Gojo in 1988. It got popularized for home and personal use in the 1980-90s. 

Today, we can say it is omnipresent-available everywhere due to this pandemic. The market size of sanitizer was valued at USD 2.7 billion in 2019 and is estimated to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 22.6% from 2020 to 2027. The growing trend of being health consciousness among the people has increased the stipulation of sanitizer. Many startups of sanitizer are flourished and have tremendous growth. The market growth is likely continuing to increase as a result of the growing health awareness toward hand hygiene as well as the rising per capita income in developed and developing countries.  

To attract the end-users, major market players have started developing several variants of sanitizers. This was initiated by adding scent and fragrance in sanitizers. The marketing is also experiencing inundation as people know the adverse effect of these chemicals. So, they are getting inclined toward bio-organic sanitizers. In this pandemic, it is a life-saving sacrament for human beings.  Hand sanitizer has become a staple for many people, thanks to its usefulness, effectiveness, and accessibility.
